War Machine, Legacy of Iron
The number this hands out is the number it starts with least: a 1/3 body means the +X/+0 it grants at the beginning of combat is worth exactly one point of power the turn it lands. That is deliberate. This is a payload amplifier, not a threat, and the loop it wants is plain the moment you read it: buff something, then grow War Machine itself so next turn's handout scales up with it. The inversion is the whole point (a support piece whose own combat stats are the ammunition, not the deliverable). Flying keeps it a live target for anthem effects and equipment while it sits in the back rank, and the beginning-of-combat timing (a trigger, not an activated pump) means the bonus resolves before blocks are declared, so it functions as a preemptive alpha-strike enabler rather than a reactive combat trick. The reward curve slopes steeply the right way: every point of power you stack onto the 1/3 doubles, then triples, then quadruples the value of that one recurring trigger, which makes it a magnet for counters, auras, and any effect that piles on power without caring about toughness. Bare, it nudges one attacker forward by a single point; loaded up, it turns a single creature into a lethal spike every combat.
