Wanderguard Sentry

Creature — Drone4 generic manaBlue mana

Five mana buys a 3/3 and one look at an opponent's hand, with no clause to act on what you see: the trigger reveals information and stops there. This is the bottom end of the hand-inspection lineage, where the gap between knowing and doing is the whole liability. Compare the line a card like Coercion or Duress draws between information and disruption: those strip the threat you found, while this leaves it in the opponent's grip and asks you to build your own plays around the snapshot. And it is only a snapshot. The peek arrives stapled to a body that costs more than the intelligence it returns, and by the time the creature lands, the window where that knowledge mattered most (the early turns when you are deciding whether to hold up a counter or commit to the board) has usually closed. Even taken as a defensive blocker, a 3/3 for five asks little of the opponent and gives little back. What it offers is a one-time tax on uncertainty: you trade tempo and a card for the right to plan against a known hand rather than a guessed one, an exchange most decks decline because the act of knowing rarely pays for the act of waiting. It is a clean illustration of why scouting effects need a rider to earn their slot, and why information alone has almost never been worth a creature's worth of mana.
