Wallop

Sorcery1 generic manaGreen mana

Color-hosed removal, drawn so tight it answers almost nothing: a blue or black creature, and only if it has flying. This is the most extreme dialect of a design language Invasion spoke fluently, where cards rewarded you for guessing your opponent's colors before sleeves came off. Where a card like Gerrard's Verdict punished black and white hands and Tsabo's Decree dismantled a creature type, Wallop narrows the aperture twice over: not just an enemy color pair, but a single keyword on top. The payoff for that specificity is that the rate is absurd for what it can hit, a two-mana hard kill with no caveats once the conditions are met, but the conditions almost never are. Green's place in the color pie is partly defined by how it reaches the air (it answers fliers through reach or a Plummet-style clause), so the card reads as green being handed a sniper rifle that only fires at half the sky. It is an answer in search of an opponent narrow enough to justify it: a pure artifact of a block built around multicolor brinkmanship, where naming the enemy's colors in advance was a deckbuilding bet rather than a guarantee. Strip the color and keyword riders and you have a strictly-better card that was never printed in green for exactly that reason.
