Five untapped Elves go in, one 7/7 trampler comes out, and the activator can be one of the five. That conversion rate is the whole barrier: you have to assemble a board wide enough to spend five bodies and still want the threat, and by the time you control five untapped Elves you can stomach tapping all of them, you are usually already winning combat the old-fashioned way. The reward is built for the wrong moment, asking for board dominance before it pays out the thing that produces board dominance. As design, it represents an early attempt at making Elf tribal a token-generating engine rather than just a mana-ramp shell, a problem Wizards kept circling with later, cheaper Elf payoffs that did not demand the same critical mass. The 7/7 is a genuinely large body for its era, and the trample reminder text is load-bearing: excess damage carries through chump blocks, so the token is a closer rather than a wall. The activation reads as a sorcery-speed liability dressed in instant-speed clothing, but the timing is the one place the design quietly works for you: fire it on the opponent's end step, when the Elves are no longer needed to block, and the Elemental arrives untapped and ready to swing on your turn. A flavorful summoning of a forest spirit, undone by demanding the whole forest first.
