Visions of Beyond

InstantBlue mana

For one mana, the floor is a cantrip and the ceiling is Ancestral Recall: the twenty-card graveyard clause is the toggle between them. That number is the design tell. Twenty cards in a single graveyard is not an organic midgame state for a fair deck; it is a threshold a self-mill or dredge engine crosses on purpose, which is the point. The card is built to reward decks that treat the graveyard as a resource pool rather than a discard pile, and it stays a dead-but-functional one-card draw everywhere else so the upside never destabilizes formats that aren't filling yards. What makes the condition elegant is that it reads "a graveyard," not "your graveyard": an opponent grinding through their own library can switch it on for you, and a long enough game can tip it without anyone trying. The effect lands at instant speed, so the toggle is checked on resolution, not on a fixed turn, letting it wait until the count is live and then refund two cards beyond its cost. The design priced a premium payoff behind a graveyard size most decks will never reach, asking the deckbuilder to commit to filling a graveyard fast enough to flip the switch before the cantrip mode is all you ever get.
