Build a deck whose two-or-fewer-cost nonland count is a single card, cast this, and the cascade resolves into that card for free; the anthem becomes irrelevant. You cast this for the dig, not the buff. That tension is the design problem cascade always carried: the spell printed on the card is just the trigger, and a deck wanting deterministic results has to engineer its curve so the chain can only land on one place. At , this gives Gruul-colored combo decks a cascade trigger whose attached effect is harmless enough to ignore and cheap enough to deploy as a virtual one-card. The pump is genuine in a creature deck, and there it does honest work; but the card's lasting identity is as a near-textless cascade delivery system, a design that nudged Wizards toward stapling cascade onto bodies and effects that demanded more from the caster. It is a reminder that cascade's value was never the spell printed on it; it was the spell underneath.
