This is what landfall looked like before the keyword existed: a 1/1 that turns every land drop into a permanent growth trigger, no fetchlands required, no synergy package, just the natural rhythm of playing lands. The design is almost aggressively pure. A single creature whose only job is to compound, growing one counter at a time as the game unfolds along the curve every deck already follows. The catch is the body it starts on. At 1/1 it dies to anything, and the counters it accumulates are vulnerable to a single removal spell that erases an entire game's worth of land drops in one card, so the payoff scales with the turns it survives rather than the lands it sees. That fragility is the price for an effect that asks nothing of the deck around it except a steady stream of lands. Later landfall designs would lean on fetchlands to double or triple the trigger count in a turn, but the Kudzu predates that infrastructure, which makes it a cleaner statement of the mechanic's core idea: reward the act of putting lands into play, and let the game's own tempo do the rest. It reads less like a tournament card and more like a proof of concept for a keyword that would arrive in full a few sets later.
