Viconia, Drow Apostate

Legendary Creature — Elf Cleric2 generic manaBlack mana

Recursion each upkeep is a familiar value drip; gating it behind four or more creature cards in your graveyard changes what kind of deck earns it. That threshold flips the deckbuilding question from "how do I get creatures back" to "how do I fill the yard fast enough to switch the engine on," which pulls sacrifice outlets, cheap trade-fodder, and self-mill from support roles into the actual plan. Once the counter is met, the recursion runs on each of your upkeeps, so the payoff compounds the longer the game goes. The randomness is what stops the loop from becoming a tutor: you cannot fish out the specific answer you need, so the harvest rewards a creature base that is uniformly good rather than one padded with narrow silver bullets. Density beats toolbox here. Choose a Background does the color work, letting a mono-black recursion core borrow a second color for whatever the graveyard plan wants without breaking the shell, which is where most of the flexibility comes from. The 2/3 statline is not the draw; the four-card fuse is, and it wants a graveyard worth mining on repeat rather than one creature worth guarding.
