Viashino Warrior

Creature — Lizard Warrior3 generic manaRed mana

A vanilla creature in the truest sense: no keyword, no rules text, just a 4/2 for four mana and the math that follows from it. That math is the whole story. Four power for four mana reads as aggressive, but two toughness means it dies to nearly any burn spell, trades down into smaller blockers, and folds to the incidental damage that defined early red. This is the rate at which a 1996 set was willing to sell raw offense: you got the power, you paid for it in fragility, and the card asked nothing of you in deckbuilding or sequencing. It belongs to a lineage of red beaters whose toughness Wizards deliberately kept one pip too low, the design where the upside sits on the front of the P/T and the cost sits on the back. Viashino itself recurs through red's history as the color's expendable, forward-leaning bodies, and this is an early, unadorned example of the pattern. Later red beaters would compress the same offense-heavy, toughness-light profile into a cheaper, faster package, which is precisely what dated this one: a four-drop with no evasion and no resilience is a creature the game outgrew rather than one it ever had to answer.
