Veteran Cavalier

Creature — Human KnightWhite manaWhite mana

The double-white cost is the whole point. Two white pips on a 2/2 vigilance creature is a deliberate color-commitment tax: this is a card built for a mono-white or heavily white deck, not a splash, and it pays you in defensive flexibility rather than raw rate. Vigilance on a small white body is one of white's oldest reward structures: attack and still hold the fort, so a two-power swing never leaves you open to the crackback. That made cards like this the connective tissue of early white weenie aggro, where the deck wanted bodies that could pressure the opponent without ever conceding the race on the swing-back turn. The rate is plain by any modern standard, and the card never pretended otherwise; its job was to fill a curve slot with a creature that did not have to choose between offense and defense. This is the unglamorous middle layer of white's identity from the era when commons and uncommons carried the tribe: not a payoff, not a finisher, just a knight that kept showing up turn after turn and never tapped out of its own blocking assignment.
