Vernadi Shieldmate
The pip is what lets this body pull double duty without asking for anything in return. A 2/2 with vigilance is filler by any measure, the kind of card that exists to round out a low curve and support an anthem rather than headline a plan. What the hybrid cost buys is casting flexibility with zero deckbuilding tax: a mono-green shell, a mono-white shell, or a two-color build can all slot it on turn two without a single pip ever stranding for want of the off-color. That is the trade hybrid mana makes at common: no fixing requirement, no commitment to both colors, just a creature that never sits dead in hand. Vigilance is the one line that gives it a role past curve-filling, since a small soldier that expects to trade up wants to keep pressing the swing while still holding back a blocker. It works as glue for a go-wide soldiers-and-tokens board, the sort of common that gets better the more anthem effects and wide-attack payoffs surround it.
