Verdurous Gearhulk
The most quietly flexible of the five-color Gearhulk cycle, because its enters-the-battlefield payload is a distribution puzzle rather than a fixed bonus. Four counters spread among any number of your creatures means it can arrive as an 8/8 trampler, hand a lone attacker a lethal swing, or seed a wide board with permanent stats before the alpha strike. Since the trigger asks you to choose targets and how the counters split when the ability goes on the stack, one 4/4 plays as several finishers at once: a hasty-feeling threat, an anthem-of-one, a tempo swing decided the moment the Gearhulk resolves. The counters are real and permanent, so they survive the body leaving play, which turns any blink or reanimation loop into a recurring counter engine. Green's history with this kind of effect leaned on cards that grew a single body (the +X/+X overrun line, or one-shot pumps that vanish at end of turn); spreading permanent counters across a board, then leaving behind a 4/4 trample threat, was a cleaner answer to how green converts a tempo lead into a closed game. The artifact type is mostly upside, opening it to colorless tutoring and recursion a plain green creature would never see. And the trample on the base body matters precisely because the counters can pile onto it: an 8/8 the opponent has to chump or eat means loading everything onto the Gearhulk is rarely a wasted line.
