Verduran Enchantress
The original card-draws-a-card engine, the one that proved "draw on enchantment" was a clean, repeatable trigger worth building a deck around. The design comes from an era before the color pie was codified: tax the deckbuilder by demanding a creature slot and a fragile body, then pay them back one card per enchantment cast. That trade has aged into an entire archetype. Argothian Enchantress refined the package with shroud and a cheaper printing; Mesa Enchantress ported the trigger to white; Eidolon of Blossoms moved it onto an enchantment body so the engine triggered itself; Setessan Champion and Sythis added stats and incidental value to make the package competitive with modern threats. None of those exist without this one establishing the template. The 0/2 body is the original tax: a stat line that asks the pilot to protect the engine rather than attack with it, and that asks the deck to lean on enchantment-based removal and protection (the same enchantments that fuel the draws) to keep it alive. Two decades of green-white enchantress decks, from kitchen-table casual to dedicated constructed builds, descend from this trigger. The lineage is the angle; the rate is just where it started.
