The cost only arrives when you reach for green or white, and even then it hides itself. There is no life paid, no comes-into-play-tapped delay, no visible toll at all. What you give up is rhythm: pull a colored mana and the land sits out your next untap step, so it functions as a once-every-two-turns dual unless you settle for the colorless mode. Where the painlands of the same era fronted their cost as repeatable damage you could choose to absorb, this one buries the cost in tempo, idling the land for a turn each time you tap it for off-color. That makes it a Selesnya fixer for decks that plan their color needs in advance rather than splashing reactively, since it never gives you a colored source you can lean on every turn; it gives you one you ration. It belongs to the Tempest tradition of lands that paired a genuine benefit with a genuine string attached, the same impulse behind the slow duals of the period. Read as fixing, it is deliberately conservative: the friction is the design, and modern fixing has largely engineered that friction away.
