Vault 101: Birthday Party
Sagas usually build toward a bang: a big token, a board wipe, a game-ending trigger on chapter three. This one ends in a birthday party, which is exactly the right register for what it does. Chapter one lays down the modest infrastructure (a 1/1 Human Soldier and a Food token), and then chapters two and three become a two-shot recursion of your gear: an Aura or Equipment card, from hand or graveyard, straight onto the battlefield, with the option to attach any Equipment to a creature you control for free. The graveyard clause is what makes the whole thing worth building around. It turns your discarded or destroyed suit-up pieces into a delayed second act, letting a deck run Equipment it would otherwise be reluctant to overcommit, knowing the Saga will fish two of them back over the following turns. The Food token is not incidental flavor either: it feeds the sacrifice-for-life engines and the "Food matters" builds that want cheap fodder. What ties it together is the tempo of the Saga chassis itself, which meters the recursion out one piece per turn rather than dumping value all at once. The result is a slow, deliberate suit-up engine dressed as a children's celebration, which is either a joke about how grim the surrounding fiction is, or a reminder that the party is the only normal thing left. Probably both.
