Vanishing
A repeatable phasing engine that turns a one-mana Aura into a permanent fog button aimed at a single creature. Phasing was Mirage block's marquee mechanic, a state where a permanent is treated as though it doesn't exist until its controller's next untap step, and most of the printed phasing cards baked the toggle in as a static or one-time event. This one isolates the toggle and rents it out for a recurring cost, which leaves it strange to evaluate: there is no reset, no upkeep, no decay. As long as the enchantment sticks and the controller has the mana, the enchanted creature can be sent out of existence indefinitely. The strategic axis is the timing window. Because phasing out removes the creature from combat, from being targeted, from being a legal sacrifice, the activation answers a wide band of problems a removal spell cannot: it dodges destruction, slips an attacker past a blocker, or saves a creature without putting it in the graveyard. What stops it short of being removal is that the creature comes back, and comes back under its original controller, so this never functions as an answer in the conventional sense. It is a denial tool. Phasing has mostly stayed a curiosity in Magic's design history, surfacing in flickers and one-offs rather than as a recurring keyword, which leaves this one of the few cards that treats the mechanic as a faucet rather than a switch.
