Instant2 generic manaWhite manaBlack mana

Vindicate spent years as the gold standard for Orzhov disruption: three mana, sorcery speed, and any permanent could go. The trade here is two-sided and deliberate. The cost climbs to four, but the timing drops the sorcery-speed clause entirely, letting the answer wait on the stack for the exact moment it matters: end of an opponent's turn, in response to an activated ability, mid-combat to strand an attacker. And the verb changes from destroy to exile, which sidesteps the entire category of recursion, indestructibility, and death triggers that a destroy effect feeds rather than stops. That swap is what justifies the higher rate. A destroy spell on an indestructible threat, a creature with a strong dies trigger, or a commander that wants to leave and return is a wasted card; exile simply removes the problem and refuses to give anything back. Breadth accounts for the appeal that timing does not. Most premium removal narrows its target to buy efficiency: creatures only, noncreature only, a single permanent type. This answers any nonland permanent with one spell, so it never sits dead against the part of the board a specialist would ignore. The price for both the instant speed and the total flexibility is that four-mana, two-color commitment, which is exactly the tax a catch-all instant should pay.
