Most discounters ask what you are casting: artifacts, instants, creatures. This one only cares about order. The reduction lands on whichever spell you cast second in a turn, whatever it is, which turns the humble first cast into the tax you pay to unlock the -off. That inversion is the whole design: a cantrip or cheap interaction spent early isn't wasted tempo but the key that opens the discount, so the reduction rewards hands stuffed with several plays over a single haymaker. The 2/4 body is doing more work than the numbers suggest. Four toughness survives the early-turn skirmishes that would otherwise pick off a fragile enabler, and a static effect that resets every turn wants to accumulate turns rather than win a race, so the extra toughness buys the time the engine needs. The natural home is any pile already committed to chaining plays: a spellslinger build stringing cantrips into payoffs, any deck where the follow-up cast is the one that closes. The limiting factor is honest and self-imposed. It offers nothing on a turn you have only one thing to do, and nothing when you're glad to have any card at all; the discount stays dead until you already have volume. So it accelerates decks built to cast a lot and shrugs at decks that were not, a circularity that is itself the strategic axis: it makes the fast decks faster and leaves everyone else where they were.
