Urborg Justice

InstantBlack manaBlack mana

A revenge spell whose entire payout is a body count, and the count is settled the instant it resolves rather than firing off any trigger. You get one forced sacrifice for every creature that died on your side of the board this turn, which makes it a spell that rewards carnage already in motion: a combat step where your blockers are trading away, a sweeper that catches your own creatures, a sacrifice loop fed on purpose. Cast it on a clean board and it does nothing, which is exactly the cost the design builds in. This is not a Diabolic Edict that demands one creature for two mana on any board; it asks you to engineer the bloodbath first, then collects on it at instant speed, and that timing is what turns it into a combat trick instead of a sorcery-speed mop-up. The opponent picks what to give up, so it never pries loose the specific threat you want, only thins the count by however many of your creatures hit the yard. As a piece of mid-nineties black removal, it belongs to an era when answers came priced with conditions rather than the clean unconditional edicts that followed: the friction is structural, not incidental. Pointing at a creature is not the cost here. Building the slaughter that powers the spell is.
