Updraft Elemental
The 1/4 flying body is one of blue's oldest defensive shapes, and the toughness is doing the real work. Four points is the threshold that survives most cheap red burn and stonewalls the early aggressive creatures a tempo deck would otherwise lose to, while the flying lets the same card apply pressure in the air once the board stalls. It is the archetypal "wall with wings": a creature whose entire purpose is to stand in front of ground attackers and trade up against the small flyers that would chip away at a long game. There is no activated ability here, no enters-the-battlefield value, nothing to build around. The stat line is calibrated for exactly one job, the kind of role-player that has anchored control and tempo shells since the game's earliest sets without ever headlining a deck. What it lacks in flash it makes up for in arithmetic: a body that blanks an aggressive curve on defense and converts to a slow clock on offense, asking nothing of the deck around it except a turn it can afford to spend defending.
