Unwilling Recruit

SorceryX generic manaRed manaRed manaRed mana

The triple-red commitment is what separates this from the steal-and-swing template that came before it. Threaten gave you a two-mana borrow and a haste body to attack with; this asks for a heavier color investment up front, then folds the X-cost pump and the untap into the same spell so the borrowed creature can break through wider boards than its base power would allow. The untap clause is the quiet half of the design: it lets you grab a creature that has already tapped to attack or to fire an activated ability, then send it straight back the other way, and the +X/+0 makes even a token or a one-drop into a real threat for one turn. The package wants mountains to spare and an aggressive plan already in place, since the rigid pip cost punishes anything trying to splash it. The familiar trap applies: gaining control until end of turn pairs with a sacrifice outlet to eat the creature before it returns, turning a temporary theft into permanent removal-plus-fodder. Where this differs from the cheaper take effects is the ceiling. With enough mana behind X, the borrowed creature stops being a tempo swing and becomes a one-shot finisher, which is a different kind of threat than simply renting a blocker for an alpha strike.
