Recursion of this shape usually rides on a sorcery, which taps you low and telegraphs the plan a full turn before the payoff arrives. Instant speed rewrites when the retrieval happens: hold it until a creature has already hit the yard, cast it on the crackback after a sweeper or the moment a targeted kill spell resolves, and the bodies come home before the opponent untaps. The self-mill and the recursion feed one another. The mill is fuel, the return is the payoff: three fresh cards into your bin, then up to two creatures among them (or already sitting there) pulled straight back to hand. Cards this spell mills can become the very bodies it returns in a single resolution. The symmetry has a cost, though: mill-adjacent opponents get free graveyard progress, and you can dig yourself into a hate-vulnerable spot you never wanted. The fixed two-card ceiling is the counterweight; it does not scale with a fat graveyard, so it favors a shell that loops a couple of specific creatures rather than one hoarding a dozen. This is retrieval for a reanimator-lite build that mines its own library for resources, sitting between a plain recursion spell and a stack-based combat trick.
