The mechanic here is a recurring tax that turns an opponent's own board against them: every upkeep, they either bleed for the enchanted creature's power or feed one of their other bodies to keep that loss off the life total. The design twist is that the damage scales with the target, so the squeeze cuts two ways. Against a wide board, the higher the power of the creature you enchant, the more painful the hit they dodge by sacrificing, and they dismantle their own side one upkeep at a time. Against a single high-power threat with no friends to sacrifice, the math curdles into a genuine clock: a 6-power attacker means six to the face every upkeep with no out, which kills fast. Note who takes the damage: not the creature's owner abstractly but its controller, which matters the moment that creature changes hands. The flaw built into the card is the same one that defined most aura-based removal of its era: it never stops the creature it sits on, it demands two black mana atop a heavy total commitment, and it dies for free if the enchanted creature leaves play before a single upkeep resolves. It belongs to a generation of black enchantments that tried to make recurring drain feel threatening without ever committing to removing the problem, a friction-heavy approach that later removal abandoned in favor of just killing the creature.
