Unified Will

Instant1 generic manaBlue mana

A two-mana counterspell that asks for the one thing control decks usually refuse to spend: a board presence. The condition is checked when this resolves, and the test is creature count, more bodies than the spell's controller, no kicker, no life payment, no Mana Leak window to fade. Where most countermagic frees you from caring about the table, this one demands you already own it. That inverts the usual mage-versus-creatures axis. Hard counters are the province of the deck that has chosen to stay off the board; this one wants you ahead the moment the opponent tries to interact. The reward is a clean answer for two mana whenever the count favors you. The catch lives on the stack, where creature totals swing constantly: a chump block resolving first, a removal spell cast in response, a token wiped before this even goes on the stack, and parity slips out from under you. So the deck holding it up has to be the deck developing the board, which is exactly the deck that historically does not run countermagic. That misfit is the whole design tension: it hands a reliable, no-strings-attached negation (provided you win the body count) to tempo-creature decks that usually settle for soft answers, and denies it to the control shells that want counters most. The question it poses is pointed: how often is the aggressor also the one with mana up to interact?
