Uktabi Faerie

Creature — Faerie1 generic manaGreen mana

A flier stapled to an artifact-destruction package, sold as a single card. The design logic is older than the templating that would later separate these jobs: in an era when modal cards and adventure halves did not exist, the way to give a creature a second function was to bolt an activated ability onto its back and price the activation high enough that you rarely got both halves in the same game. The sacrifice clause is the discipline here. You do not get repeatable artifact removal; you get one body that flies, then converts into one destruction effect when an artifact finally matters, and the conversion costs more than the creature did. Green has always been a primary home for artifact answers, so this is not the color reaching outside its lane; it is green's bread-and-butter artifact hate folded into an evasive body, so the slot is never fully dead even when there is nothing to blow up. The arithmetic is deliberately unkind: four mana and your creature to kill a single artifact is a rate green would never accept on a dedicated removal spell. The point was flexibility under deckbuilding constraints, not efficiency. It is the kind of utility creature that reads as quaint now precisely because the design problem it solved (one card, two unrelated jobs, no clean way to template that) was solved more elegantly by every mechanic invented since.
