Tsabo's Decree

A six-mana instant that punishes a deck for committing to a single creature type, and the design only matters against a metagame organized around tribes. Against a typed deck, this is a one-card sweep that strips the board, empties the hand of reinforcements, and forbids regeneration in a single resolution; against a varied creature base, it is a wildly overcosted spell that kills one or two things and lets the rest walk free. That conditional defines the whole bargain, and it tells you exactly what the era it came from looked like: a set built around clashing tribal factions, where naming a type could plausibly hit half a board and the hand behind it. Holding it at instant speed is what elevates it past a sorcery-speed wrath. Wait for the typed player to overcommit, leave the mana untapped, and you punish a swing or a post-combat redeployment at the moment it hurts most, rather than tipping your hand on your own turn. Named for Tsabo Tavoc, the legendary general whose story the set's events revolve around, it belongs to black's long line of hand-and-board attrition tools, but trades the symmetry and flexibility of a true sweeper for a sharper, narrower edge: devastating when the target's deck is built the way you guessed, dead weight when it is not.
