Truth or Tale
Fact or Fiction with the choice points swapped and the payout capped. The older spell reveals five and lets the opponent build the two piles, then hands you the entire pile you choose; here the roles are flipped. You do the splitting, your opponent decides which pile you draw from, and you take a single card out of it before everything else goes to the bottom of your library. That reversal changes the whole transaction. Fact or Fiction is a card-advantage spell; this is a card-selection spell. You are not netting cards, you are paying two mana to dig five deep for exactly one, and the opponent's job is to study your split and hand you the pile that helps you the least. The bottom-of-library clause does as much work as the single-card cap: nothing feeds a graveyard, nothing is set up for recursion, so the deck quietly thins and your draws smooth without the value-engine collateral that made the older spell a build-around. The split-and-choose math punishes a deck hunting one specific answer, since you can never guarantee the piece you need lands in the pile your opponent gives you, and it rewards a hand where either pile would do: you split most safely when both halves are roughly interchangeable, leaving your opponent no meaningful choice to make. Selection over velocity, tighter and far harder to abuse than the spell it answers.
