Trustworthy Scout

Creature — Human Scout1 generic manaWhite mana

The joke is the payload here: a plain 2/2 body whose only wrinkle is that it fetches a copy of itself from the graveyard. The activation exiles this Scout to tutor up the next one, which means a single copy in the opening hand becomes a slow-drip stream of 2/2 bodies, each one refilling the hand as it dies. You never run out of Scouts because every Scout points you at another. Structurally it belongs to a small family of self-referential creatures that treat the graveyard as a search index rather than a resource, built around identity rather than ramp or recursion. The math is deliberately capped: four copies in a deck, and each activation costs two mana on top of the two to recast, so the loop is a tax you pay for consistency, not a machine that spins for free. What the design is really selling is a body that refuses to become a dead draw. A hand clogged with interchangeable creatures usually stalls; every one of these can instead spend itself to guarantee the next threat, so the deck that runs the full set trades raw power for the promise that it will always have something to cast. Plain by rate, self-perpetuating by construction.
