Traproot Kami

Creature — SpiritGreen mana

A blocker whose toughness is pegged to the number of Forests in play, counting both sides of the table, which makes it one of green's odder land-count payoffs: it scales with a resource you do not fully control. The reach is what makes the package coherent. A defender with variable toughness already deters ground attacks, but the ability to block fliers turns it into a single answer to two attack vectors at once, the kind of asymmetric defense a slow green deck wants while it assembles a larger plan. The body lives and dies by Forest density, and that is where the design gets specific: it does not care about your land count generally, only about cards with the Forest type, so the manabase that feeds it best is one that leans on basics or on duals that carry the Forest subtype rather than typeless lands. A purist mono-green shell can stand it up as a wall taller than most creatures will ever climb; a build that hedges into typeless fixing watches it stay small. That dependence cuts the other way too, since an opponent's Forests count just as much as yours: in a green mirror it grows on both of your turns, a wall fed partly by the deck across the table. It belongs to green's long tradition of rewarding commitment to the color, sitting firmly on the defensive end, asking you to grow a forest rather than build an engine.
