Subtracting power without touching toughness is the gentlest kind of intervention an aura can make: it never kills, never trades, never resolves the creature underneath it. What it does instead is rewrite the damage math at the moment damage matters. Flash it in once attackers are declared and a 3/3 connects for zero, a 5/5 for two, a midrange beater for a fraction of what it threatened. The ambush is the obvious half. The quieter half is that the aura stays glued on afterward, taxing that same attacker's output every combat until either the creature or the enchantment is gone. Most -X/-0 effects spend themselves on a single swing; this one buys the surprise and keeps the suppression, which is the trade that justifies sitting in a slot a real removal spell could have. The hybrid pip means a blue deck or a black deck can field it without bending its mana to do so. The cost is the structural weakness of every power-shaving effect: it shapes combat but answers nothing, so an evasive threat that sidesteps the blocking math, an activated ability, or a slow grind around it all walk through. No recursion, no second trigger, no reattachment. One held card, one ambush, and a standing power tax that lasts exactly as long as the aura keeps its grip.
