Tormod's Cryptkeeper

Tormod's Crypt has spent decades as the free graveyard nuke that costs a card and does nothing else: draw it against a deck with no graveyard and it is a blank. This is the same exile effect welded to a Golem, and the whole design is an argument about what that welding buys you. Where the classic artifact sits inert until cracked, the creature attacks and blocks while it waits for the graveyard matchup to matter, so the answer stops being a dead cardboard rectangle when the opponent has nothing to hate. You pay three mana instead of zero, and in exchange you get board presence between the moment it enters and the moment the graveyard becomes a problem. Vigilance is the detail that makes the toolbox function without a tempo cost: the sacrifice-and-exile can fire after combat, so the body keeps applying pressure every turn until the exact swing where a graveyard turns lethal, then converts itself into the answer. Crucially, this is not a guaranteed silver bullet. The activation uses the stack and targets a player, which leaves a combo opponent a window to respond, cast an instant, or flash back a card before the exile resolves. What the card offers is not surprise but sequencing: it lets you hold graveyard hate on a creature that does not have to be reduced to a single reactive line, converting an effect that is normally all-or-nothing into one you can hold, threaten, and time.
