Torii Watchward

Creature — Spirit4 generic manaWhite mana

Soulshift was the keyword that tried to give Spirits a graveyard spine: when one died, it pulled a smaller Spirit back to hand, knitting the tribe into a chain of bodies that kept refunding themselves. This one sits high enough on the curve to matter as both an anchor and a payload. Soulshift 4 reaches almost the entire low end of the Spirit roster, so the death of a 3/3 is rarely just a 3/3 dying; it returns a recursion piece, a flyer, or another soulshift trigger that can then pick up the next casualty in line. Vigilance is the quiet half of the package, letting the body attack into the same board it needs to defend without ever lowering its guard, which matters in a tribe that wins through attrition rather than tempo. The tension the design resolves is that a five-mana 3/3 with no evasion is a poor rate in a vacuum, so the value has to live in the loop: this is built to die into the next Spirit, not to dominate combat. As a structural piece it makes a tribal deck cohere from the back rather than the front, an engine that turns a graveyard full of small Spirits into a resource you spend slowly across a long game.
