The arithmetic is the whole pitch and the whole problem: twelve total mana spread across four turns buys you one 9/9, with each charge-counter activation costing three mana plus the artifact's tap, and the second and third tokens demanding another nine and another nine on top. That is a payoff worth four and a half Grizzly Bears in raw stats, delivered on a clock so slow that any deck capable of casting and protecting it for three uninterrupted turns is usually a deck that has already won. The tension is structural: a mana sink wants to be the thing you do with leftover mana, but this one demands a full turn's worth, three times over, before it produces anything. The closest design relatives are the slow artifact engines that ask you to bank counters toward a delayed reward, and this one sits at the punishing end of that line, where the body is genuinely enormous and the tokens repeat, but the ramp to the first one is brutal. The real liability is not the rate, it is fragility: the counters do not convert into a backup plan if the artifact dies mid-charge, so destroying it on turn two of a four-turn investment resets everything to zero. That reset risk, more than the mana cost, is what keeps it a build-around curiosity rather than a staple. You are spending turns on a thing one removal spell erases entirely.
