Tireless Tribe

Creature — Human NomadWhite mana

A free activated ability with no per-turn limit and no mana cost is a fundamentally different design object than a costed one, and this 1/1 nomad shows why with unusual clarity. The cost is a card, paid one at a time: each activation discards exactly one card to add four toughness, so to climb from a 1/1 to something enormous you fire the ability repeatedly, once per card in hand, until the hand runs dry. The ceiling is the entire point. The +0/+4 is not a sink for excess cards; it is the payload. Stack the toughness high enough across a string of activations, then bolt it onto an effect that swaps a creature's power and toughness, and the inert body becomes a one-shot kill on the swing. The hand is the meter: one card per four toughness, which is why a build wants either a way to refill before it empties or a way to weaponize the number while the cards are still flowing. What keeps the ability dangerous is the total absence of friction on the activation itself: no mana, no tap, no cap on uses, just a stable body that converts cards into a toughness count that only goes up. Designers took the lesson. A free, unlimited activation on a creature that survives the turn is a standing invitation to pry apart what a card was printed to do from what it can actually be made to do.
