A green one-drop that turns into two red mana is the kind of color-bending utility that early design used sparingly, and this one wears it on a body that can also block. The sacrifice-for- line is the load-bearing part: it functions as a one-card ritual that converts a green source into red, smoothing out two-color ramp or fueling a turn-ahead red spell on the back of a green opening. The defender-and-3-toughness frame is not filler; it gives the card a job before you cash it in, holding a ground stall while you wait for the right moment to crack it for mana or to point its damage ability at whatever it is blocking. That second activation, dealing 2 to a creature it is blocking, narrows the damage to a defensive context on purpose: it is not removal you can fire at will, but a trade you can sweeten when the wall is already in combat. The whole package reads as a deliberately constrained mana accelerant: cheap, color-translating, and built so the ritual upside comes attached to a turn of board presence rather than arriving naked. It is the sort of design that rewards holding the sacrifice until it does two jobs at once, and it predates the era when green ramp and red payoffs were assumed to live in separate decks.
