Tigereye Cameo

Artifact3 generic mana

The fixing here is the artifact shell, not the rate. Tap for green or white, sure, but the point was never speed: a mana rock produces its color regardless of what your lands wanted to be, which let a multicolor deck splash a pair without bending its manabase to accommodate them. That is the trade these allied-pair cameos made: one mana a turn, a tap cost attached, and a deploy cost a full step slower than the moxen and signets and talismans that bracket them on either side of the timeline. Slow even by the standards of its era. What it bought was reliability: a source that came online in any deck regardless of which other colors surrounded it, because the artifact frame asked nothing of your lands. The negotiation underneath every fixing rock is the same: how much do you charge for flexibility, and how much speed do you hand back? The conservative answer these pieces represent (price the two-color rock as a luxury, keep a heavily multicolor format from accelerating too freely) is the one later sets quietly abandoned, repricing the same idea downward and never looking back. That is why the cameos read as transitional: a snapshot from the years when two-color fixing in an artifact wrapper was still treated as a premium rather than a baseline.
