A red Wizard whose two activated abilities both demand mana it cannot produce: black to drain two life off the top, green to swing the whole team for plus two each. That mismatch is the organizing trick of the Master cycle, a five-card lineup from the domain era that paid players for stretching their lands across colors. Each Master sits in one color and gates its tricks behind double-pips of two others, so what you are really buying is a single permanent that hands a green-black-red deck both an inevitability engine and a combat trick, neither of which red contributes itself. Viewed that way, the modest 2/2 frame is almost beside the point; the threat is what the activations enable, not what attacks. The friction is built in, because using either ability taps the creature off combat and asks for two off-color pips you might rather spend on a spell. The whole greed-tax aesthetic of this period leaned on exactly this kind of bargain: pay in mana flexibility, collect effects no monocolor deck could buy. Among its cycle-mates, this is the aggressive corner. The green pump turns a wide board lethal, and the black drain closes the door once they are dead.
