A red two-drop whose real product is a recurring tax break on the half of the deck it does not share a color with: black spells and green spells you cast each shrink by of generic cost, and red ones never do. That asymmetry is the whole design. It is splash-glue, built to sit in a red-anchored shell and subsidize the off-color removal and creatures behind it, and the discount stacks the way generic-cost cuts always have, so multiple copies bend a multicolor curve hard. The reduction touches only the generic portion of a cost, never the colored pips, so it cannot drop a spell to zero: a black or green spell still owes its color requirement no matter how many of these are out. What it buys instead is tempo, casting two things off mana that would have paid for one. The first strike is not filler stapled onto a fragile body; a 1/1 first striker trades up against the small x/1 attackers that crowded the early game in this Kavu's era, so it keeps applying pressure after its enabling job is done. It belongs to a quiet lineage of creatures-as-mana-fixing, where the stat line is deliberately modest because the value is the tax break handed to every spell that follows. The ceiling on that value is the narrowness of who it helps: it accelerates only the black and green commitment, so the reward lands only if you have actually built around the colors it cares about.
