Thundering Rebuke

Sorcery1 generic manaRed mana

Two mana for four damage to a creature or planeswalker is a generous rate on a spell that gives up nothing structural: no death trigger to earn, no spectacle cost, no life payment, just the sorcery-speed clause that separates it from the burn spells that could ambush a combat step or answer a spell on the stack. That clause is the whole tradeoff. It cannot go to the face, and it cannot fire in response to anything, so the four damage buys removal reliability rather than reach or tempo. What it does clean up is the size problem that has always dogged cheap red removal: the two- and three-toughness bodies a Shock or a two-damage spell whiffs on, and the smaller planeswalkers a red deck otherwise has to attack down over multiple turns. Four is the number that clears most of the midrange curve without asking you to hold up mana or find a second card. It is a plain, efficient answer built for a deck that wants to spend its early turns killing things and its late turns pointing damage at bigger targets, and the sorcery restriction is exactly the ceiling that keeps a rate this good honest.
