The Warrior

Hero

These Hero cards belong to a supplementary product rather than any tournament-legal environment: they were designed for a cooperative deck-building side game played alongside a shared storyline, where each player took on the role of a character advancing through an adventure. Read strictly as a Magic object, the ability is unremarkable: repeatable haste-granting is the kind of effect that shows up on modest utility creatures. What sets this apart is that it has no mana cost, no printed body, and no place in a normal deck; it functions as a standing role you inhabit for the length of an alternate-format session, tapping to nudge whichever attacker matters most in a given turn. The design brief was theme first: give each archetypal hero a signature verb that reads like their story role, and the warrior's verb is putting a creature into the fray a turn early. It reads more like a board-game character sheet than a Constructed card, which is exactly why it never needs to be balanced against real mana curves. Judged on its own terms, as a token of participation in a narrative side experience, it does its one job cleanly and stays out of the way of the story it was built to serve.
