The Pit

Plane — The Abyss

Symmetric offers producing asymmetric outcomes is the whole engine here, and this plane hands every player the same fork the moment it flips: a clean 3/3 flying Angel, or a 6/6 flying, trampling Demon that demands a creature every upkeep or turns its full six damage inward. The framing is the entire design. The Angel is upside with no strings; the Demon is a mouth you have to keep feeding, and it reads completely differently depending on the board you already have. A player sitting on expendable bodies can afford the Demon and cover its upkeep, banking an evasive threat for zero mana; a player whose creatures are all load-bearing takes the Angel or risks six to the face every turn. The chaos clause is the second turn of the screw, and it presses on everyone equally: each chaos roll forces a group-wide sacrifice that does nothing to satisfy the Demon's upkeep. It simply thins the fodder the Demon-holder needs, so the more chaos ensues, the harder the bargain gets to service. That is the clever part: the plane sizes itself to the table without knowing anything about the table. It is generous to the deck built to spend creatures and hostile to the deck built to protect them, and the sacrifice triggers decide who pays without the plane ever choosing sides.

Rules text

When you planeswalk to The Pit, each player creates their choice of a 3/3 white Angel creature token with flying or a 6/6 black Demon creature token with flying, trample, and "At the beginning of your upkeep, sacrifice another creature. If you can't, this token deals 6 damage to you." Whenever chaos ensues, each player sacrifices a nonartifact creature of their choice.
