Terramorphic Expanse
The fetchland template stripped of every premium feature, and the better for being plain. There is no life payment, no choice of two land types per copy, no untapped arrival: you pay a full turn of tempo (the basic comes in tapped) and a card slot to thin one land from the deck and fix one color. That tax is exactly the point. A free, no-life-loss fetch that grabbed any basic and entered untapped would be a multiformat staple; making the basic arrive tapped is the concession that lets this design live at common rarity and slot into a budget manabase without warping it. What it actually buys is reliability for decks that cannot afford the shocklands and surveil duals: it guarantees the right basic on the right turn and smooths a three-color curve, trading a point of speed for a point of consistency. It also does small mechanical work beyond fixing. Because it is itself a land, playing it triggers landfall, and then fetching a basic triggers landfall a second time, two enters-the-battlefield events split across a single turn for any payoff that counts them. It deck-thins by a single card in the bargain. The design has been reprinted and re-skinned repeatedly because it solves a perennial problem (color fixing for players who do not own the painlands) at a price low enough to give away. Evolving Wilds is the same card under a different name; both are the workhorse fixing that asks only patience.
