Tenza, Godo's Maul
An Equipment that pays out exactly as much as your roster lets it. The base buff is modest and the equip cost is a single mana, but both numbers are tuned around the conditional clauses that follow: a legendary creature swings the bonus up to a real threat-sized boost, and a red creature gets trample stapled on for nothing. It was built for an era that ran thick with legendary creatures, where "legendary" functioned as a tribal axis rather than a deckbuilding tax, so the +2/+2 rider was meant to read as the default case rather than the exception. That lineage is the difference between this and a generic stat-stick: it scales from a marginal pump on a vanilla body to a substantial swing on a named one, then hands red attackers the trample they want to punch through chump blockers. The design tension is honesty about which numbers you have earned. A flat +3/+3-with-trample at this equip cost would warp around any creature it touched, so the strong figures are gated behind characteristics you actually have to bring to the table. The cheap equip cost matters precisely because the bonus is single-target and conditional: it lets you re-attach to a fresh carrier after the first one dies, which is the closest thing this Equipment has to staying power once the board trades down.
