Falter effects (mass-tapping a defending army for a turn) have a long lineage in blue and red, but they almost always live on instants or sorceries, cast in the precombat main phase right before the alpha strike. Stapling that effect to a creature changes its shape entirely. The tap fires on the enter trigger, which means the timing is dictated by when you can deploy a four-mana body rather than when the attack step opens, and the 2/3 stays behind as a permanent instead of evaporating into the graveyard. That trade buys durability where the spell version offered only a moment: the enabler survives its own alpha strike and becomes a repeatable engine for anything that can reset the enter trigger, so blink or reanimation turns a single board-clear into a recurring one. What you give up is the flexibility a Falter spell hands you, since the effect fires only when the body lands; you cannot hold it up at instant speed or spring it as a surprise across a stalled board. The tribal line matters too; a Merfolk Wizard that strips away blockers slots naturally into a curve already built around going wide. The design represents something aggressive decks have always coveted but rarely got to keep: an alpha-strike enabler that stays on the table, ready to be flickered into clearing the same wall again rather than trading itself away for a single swing.
