Tablet of the Guilds

Artifact2 generic mana

Choosing two colors as it enters is meant to dress this up as a guild payoff, but the math underneath it is stingier than the framing admits. A spell qualifies only if it shares at least one chosen color, and the lifegain scales with how many of the pair it matches: a monocolored hit nets one life, a gold spell sitting exactly in your chosen pair nets two. That double-counting is the whole incentive structure, built to reward a tight two-color shell where most spells are on-color and the gold cards pay out twice. Which is why this kind of artifact has always lived in casual lifegain decks rather than anything that needed the life to mean something. The lineage runs through every passive lifegain rock that asks you to keep doing what you were already doing and pays a small dividend on it. The trouble is that one life per spell is a trickle, and a trickle you bought by spending an early turn to set it up. It contributes nothing to the board when it resolves, and by the time the chosen colors have stacked up real life, the games where a per-cast point would have decided anything are usually already settled. A clean execution of a guild-flavored idea, capped by the modesty of the reward it hands back.
