Szadek, Lord of Secrets

Most evasive beaters threaten your life total; this one threatens your library. The replacement clause turns every connection into a double payoff: the combat damage that would shorten the game instead grows Szadek with that many +1/+1 counters while grinding the defender's deck away by the same amount. That redirection is the whole conceit. A 5/5 flier that mills five and becomes a 10/10 the first time it connects is a fast clock against a deck whose only out is the top of its library, and because the counters stay on the body, both numbers double with each hit: mill five and grow to 10/10, then mill ten and grow to 20/20, then mill twenty. The clock accelerates rather than grinds. The catch is the one every seven-mana investment with no immediate board impact carries: it has to survive a turn and then survive combat, and losing it to a removal spell is a brutal tempo swing that can simply end your game. There is also a structural quirk worth naming. Because Szadek deals no combat damage to the player (the damage is replaced before it lands), effects keyed on life loss or damage dealt to a player never see it, which prunes a whole branch of synergies a normal Dimir flier would enjoy. What you get instead is a self-fueling mill engine welded to an evasive threat, a design that treats decking as an aggressive plan rather than an attrition grind: the Vampire grows by emptying the opponent's deck, and the flavor and the math point at the same idea.
