Swiftfoot Boots
Hexproof and haste on the same Equipment, for an equip cost that asks almost nothing: this is the standard insurance policy for the creature a deck is built around. Lightning Greaves does the same two jobs more cheaply but shroud-locks the wearer out of your own targeted spells; this trades that speed for hexproof, which keeps the equipped creature reachable by your own buffs, auras, and untap effects while still shutting out opposing spot removal that targets. That distinction is the whole reason both effects coexist in decks rather than one obsoleting the other. Note what hexproof does not stop: edicts and other sacrifice effects target the player, not the creature, so they slide right past the protection. The haste line matters most on a creature played the turn it matters, letting it attack or tap immediately instead of sitting a turn and inviting a removal spell. The honest limitation is the sorcery-speed equip: you cannot snap these on in response to a kill spell already on the stack, so the protection is proactive, something you plan around in advance, not a reactive save. As a piece of colorless utility any deck can run regardless of color identity, it has settled into the role of the default way to insulate a key threat from targeted interaction, an effect that drifted from nice-to-have toward near-mandatory once singleton, threat-dense play became common.
