Surveillance Room

Land

The five-color filter land is one of the oldest solutions to a greedy manabase: it produces colorless for free and any color for one extra mana, so it fixes anything at the cost of tempo, the way Unknown Shores or Shimmering Grotto do. What separates this one from that lineage is the arrival trigger. It enters untapped and hands you a surveil 1 the moment it lands, folding a small hit of card selection and graveyard fuel into a mana drop that would otherwise just sit there. That answers a real tension in fixing design: a land that taps for any color usually pays with a tapped entry or a tighter tax, and here the tax stays on the color activation while the free colorless production comes with a rider instead of a penalty. Surveil stapled to a permanent is unusual company, too. Most surveil rides spells that resolve and leave; bolting it to a land makes the effect guaranteed, one-time, and free of any spell slot, feeding graveyard-hungry strategies (delve, flashback, reanimation) while smoothing colors on the side. It is the kind of low-opportunity-cost value that fixing lands have drifted toward as decks have grown hungrier for both their colors and their yard.
