Sunken Hollow

Land — Island Swamp

The conditional that governs this dual inverts the usual price of fixing. A tapland always costs a turn; a painland always costs life. This one asks nothing of your wallet and everything of your sequencing: keep enough basics on the board and it arrives untapped, fall short and it comes in tapped on the turns that matter most. The reward flows to manabases built on actual basics rather than a greedy pile of nonbasic fixing, a deliberate counterweight to the all-shockland, all-fetchland habit that had normalized cutting basics entirely. The clause caring only about the Basic supertype creates a pointed asymmetry within the card's own text. It carries the Island and Swamp types, so a fetchland can retrieve it and other effects can count it as both of those land types, but those types do nothing to satisfy the entry condition. As a nonbasic, it contributes zero toward turning itself or its cyclemates on. That is the tension worth sitting with: the typing makes it findable and flexible while the condition pulls the opposite way, demanding the very lands the typing tempts you to shave. Play honest and it pays you back untapped; cut corners on your base and it charges you tempo precisely when you can least afford it.
