Two spells share one card, and the price you pay decides which. Left alone, this is a fragile 3/1 lifelink beater built to attack rather than block, trading willingly and clocking fast for its cost. Pay the kicker and the same cast arrives with a reanimation package welded to its entrance, pulling any nonland permanent of mana value 2 or less back from the graveyard: a dead mana dork, a spent aristocrat trigger, a two-drop artifact or enchantment that already did its first job. The mana value cap is the wall that keeps the exchange fair. It holds the returned card in the same weight class as the healer, so the all-in ceiling () is a pair of two-drops on the board rather than a cheat into anything expensive, and it steers the card toward the small, disposable permanents that white weenie and go-wide decks want to recur anyway. The recursion living on a creature's enter trigger, not sold as a standalone sorcery, is what changes the tempo of the whole thing: the return resolves once, on entry, so by the time an opponent can answer the body the reanimated permanent is already back. Removal spent afterward gets a 3/1, not the card it brought home. It belongs to a line of white designs that fold graveyard recovery into a creature you were casting regardless, doing what black usually reserves a dedicated slot for, and keeping the exchange inside the small-permanent economy the deck already runs.
